How to Make an Olympic 'Gold Medal' Craft

Whenever the Olympics come around, the kids get excited. And to celebrate, it's fun to make a medal collection which kids can display or reward themselves with when playing sports games.

Method 1
Paper medal

    Draw a circle on the piece of paper. Color it in with the color you want for the medal. If wished, write:
    • 1st on yellow/gold
    • 2nd on grey/silver; and
    • 3rd on (light) brown/bronze.

    Cut out the circle. Color the back when the front is dry (if relevant).

    Hole punch the medal on the top.

    Cut about a foot of string. Pull the string through the hole in the medal.

    Knot the string on the top.

    Wear your medal with pride.

Method 2
Foam medal

    Create a circle of foam. Draw a circle on a thin sheet of foam, then cut it out.

    Repeat on gold, silver or bronze paper. Cut out the paper circle.

    Spread glue across the foam. Spread glue across the paper.

    Stick the two circles together. Have the color facing outward.

    Punch a hole through the circle at the edge. Thread a purple, blue or red ribbon through it and tie, leaving enough space for hanging around a neck.

    Paint the Olympic symbols on using glitter glue. This step is optional but makes for a pretty effect.

    Write the location and date on it if wished. For example, "London 2012" or "Sochi 2014".

    Use in play or put in display.

Tips

  • Make the knot as tight as possible when tying the ribbon or string.

Warnings

  • This type of medal doesn't last long.
