How to Make an Oat Bird Cake
This is a bird cake based on oats. It's a good one to make for the winter season, when bird food becomes more scarce. Place in your garden as part of caring for the birds that visit you.
Ingredients
- 5 cups rolled oats
- 200 gm dripping/lard/solid vegetable fat
- 2 cups honey or sugary jam
Steps
- 1In a large bowl, add the oats and pour in the honey or jam. Mix to turn into a soft consistency.
- 2Add the dripping or whichever solid fat you are using. Mix through to a smooth consistency.
- 3Leave the cake to set.
- 4Cut the cake into portions. Slide several portions into a netting bag or set out on a feeding plate.
- 5Place out for the birds to enjoy. Replenish as needed.
