How to Make an Heavenly Angel Cake

Light and low calorie Angel Food cake is a dessert almost anyone can enjoy. Be sure to gently fold dry ingredients into the egg whites.


  • 12 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar

    Separate eggs; dispose of the yolks or refrigerate them for another use. Calculate the egg whites, adding or eliminating the whites as needed to equivalent 1-1/2 cups. Add the egg whites to the mixing bowl; let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.

    Sift the confectioner's sugar and flour together three times; set aside.

    Add the cream of tartar, extracts and salt to egg whites; blend on high speed. Gradually add the sugar, whipping until the sugar is dissipated and stiff peaks form.

    Fold in the flour mixture, 1/4 cup at a time. Gently spoon into an ungreased 10-inch tube pan.

    Cut the batter with a table knife to eliminate air pockets.

    Bake cake at 350 °F (177 °C) for 40-45 minutes or up until the cake bounces back when lightly touched. Instantly overturn pan; allow for the cake to cool down before removing cake from pan.
