How to Make a Wreath with Clothes Hangers

One wire hanger can be reshaped to string squares of wax paper or crepe paper to create a wreath.

Steps

    Untwist wire hanger and shape into a circle, using pliers as needed.

    Gently crumple 3" squares of wax paper or crepe paper and thread hanger through center of each square. Maximum volume can be achieved by crumpling paper into a rough cup shape, and alternating direction each piece faces when threading.

    When you have threaded enough squares to fill length of hanger, gently push squares away from ends and use pliers to twist ends together. Remainder of hanger ends can be wiggled back and forth with pliers until they snap off, or they can be shaped into a hook for hanging wreath on wall.

    Gently slide squares of paper back toward the joined ends of wire hanger, scrunching paper more for additional fullness.

Tips

  • Colored crepe paper is beautiful, but not always economical or available. Wax paper squares can be used, then spray-painted in bright colors once wreath is assembled.

  • Adult supervision is recommended when reshaping wire hanger, and if spray painting wreath.
