How to Make a Tiny Vampire Pumpkin

Three Methods:Choosing the PumpkinsTaking MeasurementsCutting the Pumpkin

With vampires continuing to dominate both the theater and Halloween scene, creating a vampire pumpkin seems rather appropriate. Use tiny, white pumpkins for your creation as they will be outfitted with a pair of plastic vampire fangs for effect.

Method 1
Choosing the Pumpkins

    1
Choose white pumpkins. A white pumpkin should be used to enhance the paleness of the vampire.
    • Select a smaller pumpkin. You will cut out a small opening toward the bottom of the pumpkin to insert a set of plastic vampire teeth. A large pumpkin won’t accommodate a small set of teeth and will get lost in the size.

Method 2
Taking Measurements

    1
Measure the vampire teeth. Obtain both height and width measurements as you will need to not only create a wide enough opening inside the pumpkin, but one that is deep enough to accommodate the vampire teeth.

    2
Transfer your measurements to the pumpkin using the pencil. Sketch the width directly on the pumpkin. Take depth into consideration so you know how deeply to make the initial cut.

Identify the area where the mouth should be located. You may want to pencil in where you will add the eyes to ascertain where the mouth will be located, typically toward the bottom of the pumpkin.

Create a pattern for the vampire teeth opening. Draw a dotted line that your knife can follow for the mouth area.

Method 3
Cutting the Pumpkin

Remove the cut portion of the pumpkin. Wiggle your knife around the sides of the pumpkin mouth to easily remove and dislodge the mouth area.
    • Scrape the inside of the cut area to smooth the pumpkin flesh and create a neat pocket to hold the vampire teeth.

Create a flat surface along the bottom of the teeth area with your knife. Slide the knife along the bottom of the opening and smooth the area.

Add vampire eyes. Stick a long pin with the large red beaded head into each pencil eye marking. This will help the vampire to peer at people with his or her beady red eyes.

Tips

  • Use a “funkin” instead of a real pumpkin to keep the pumpkin from year to year.
  • Add a small amount of red paint or red food coloring to the mouth area for effect.

Things You'll Need

  • Small white pumpkins
  • A set of vampire fangs from the local costume/party store––classic white will work well but you could also go with day glow pink, yellow or green for added effect
  • Pumpkin carving tools (including a small jagged knife and scraper)

  • A tape measure
  • A pencil with an eraser
