How to Make a Rum Cake

Are you looking for a quick and easy treat? Well, this is a simple recipe for making a wonderful Rum Cake. Rum cakes are wonderful accents to most holiday meals such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter! This is a recipe that my mother uses every year and everyone in the family absolutely loves it.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 cup chopped or ground pecans
  • 1 ( 8 /2 oz) pkg. yellow cake mix with pudding already in the mix.
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/3 cup liquid cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup Bacardi superior rum
  • Bundt cake pan

Glaze

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Bacardi superior rum

    First see the list of items above that you will need to make this cake and the glaze that is included! Be sure that you have all items that are listed because if you don't then you won't have a very good cake.

Method 1
For the Cake

    You'll want to pre-heat your oven to 325 degrees.

    Grease and flour your Bundt pan.

    Sprinkle nuts on the bottom of the pan.

    Mix all of the cake ingredients together and using a mixer for two (2) minutes.

    Pour batter over nuts and bake for one (1) hour.

    Let it cool and then invert it onto a serving plate.

    Spoon glaze evenly over the top and sides in medium amounts. Let the cake absorb it for about 5 minutes and then add more layers until glaze is used up.

    Get a tall glass of milk, find some friends or family, and enjoy!

Method 2
For Glaze

    Melt butter in a saucepan.

    Stir in water, sugar, and rum.

    Boil for five (5) minutes, stirring constantly. Then remove from heat.

    Drizzle over cake.

Tips

  • This cake tastes so much better after it has been sitting for a while. This lets the glaze evenly coat through the entire cake. If you bake it the night before you need it and then let it sit, it will be a big hit!
