How to Make a Rose out of a Cloth Napkin

Making a rose out of a napkin is a simple but effective way of improving the table adornments for a dinner party or special occasion meal. It's so easy that even the kids can make them if you want to get them involved in the preparations for setting a special table.

Steps

    Take the cloth napkin and lay it out in front of you. Always use a cloth napkin, and the larger it is, the easier the folding will be.

    Fold the napkin diagonally in half. The end result will look like a triangle.

    With the longest side near you, roll the triangle up until it reaches halfway. Although this part's a little tricky, you'll soon get the hang of it.

    Flip the napkin over so that you can't see the rolls. The longest side should still be nearest to you. At this stage, the napkin should look like a a triangle with two tails, both left and right.

    Take the end of one tail and roll (fold it) till it reaches the end of the other tail. When you're done with rolling, tuck the free end into the little pocket at the bottom. The napkin should now look like a torch or a candle, or maybe even a fancy cup holder.

    Look for the two flaps inside of your creation. Take them and pull one to the left and one to the right. This is very easy to do, although it's also easy to mess up this step, so perform it carefully.

    Turn the napkin over. Be amazed by your creation of a rose with leaves. It's now ready to place on the table. Continue with the remaining napkins until all are completed.

Tips

  • The term "rolling" in this article refers to folding over and over.

Warnings

  • This doesn't really work with paper napkins as they're prone to ripping; however, follow this tutorial to create a paper one.
