How to Make a Rice Crepe

Some people around the world may be interested in Indian foods. Here is a south Indian recipe.

Steps

    Get some rice flour and add a little amount of water to it. The most desirable ratio is 2 (water):3 (rice flour).

    Take a tawa (disc-shaped frying pan) and heat it.

    Removing the oil from the tawa which has been used previously for cooking something else is highly recommended.

    Take a cup of the rice batter (about 100ml) and spread it across the tawa. Spread it evenly in a round shape.

    Let it settle for 2 to 5 seconds. Then add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (oil can be also replaced by ghee or butter). Drop the oil on the surface of the crepe which has been left to settle down. Oil then has to be dropped around the crepe to make it non-sticky.

    Let it for half or full a second.Then take a flat spatula and turn over the crepe.

    Let it cook for 30 or 60 seconds. Then use the spatula again to turn over the crepe.

    Serve the crepe hot and crispy.

Tips

  • Rice crepe, though can by eaten with any dips, it tastes best with coconut chutney or any other south India chutney (chutney is pasty dip prepared in south India to accompany rice crepes).

Warnings

  • Be careful while handling the hot tawa.
  • Do not use a microwave oven to cook a rice crepe.
  • Do not add excess oil.
  • A rice crepe cooked on an oily tawa breaks down very easily.
