Like watching stuff blow up and make a mess? Want to create a funky paint splatter in the room you're decorating? Then a paint bomb might just be for you!

Steps

    Clean out and dry the bottle.

    Lay down an empty plastic trash bag.

    Place the open bottle onto of trash bag

    Stir the paint and make sure you've put on your safety goggles.

    Put the funnel into the top of the bottle.

    Fill the bottle between 1/2 and 3/4 full, depending on how long you want the effect to last. A 2 liter (0.5 US gal) bottle 3/4 full will give you about 30 seconds.

    Put gloves on and crush the dry ice with a hammer. Crush it into small chunks that you know will fit through the top of the bottle.

    Place the equipment. Take the bottle full of paint, the cap, and a handful of dry ice to the location where you want it to go off.

    Place the dry ice in the bottle. Do this very quickly, put the cap on then shake it a few times. Quickly set it down or throw it at the targeted location.

    Get at least 50 feet (15.2 m) back. Prepare for some amazing fireworks.

Things You'll Need

  • A 1 or 2 liter (0.3 or 0.5 US gal) plastic bottle, empty
  • Funnel
  • Paint of your choice
  • Dry ice
  • Empty plastic trash bag
  • Thick gloves and a hammer
  • Protective eye wear

Tips

  • Its generally a good idea to use washable paint if you just want to watch it explode.
  • Start with small amounts to get a feel for the time/amount ratio.

Warnings

  • Only use a plastic bottle, never glass.
  • Always wear something over your eye in case something goes wrong.
  • Paint is a solvent, and can be extremely damaging to people, property and wildlife.
  • Never touch dry ice without thick gloves or it will burn your skin.
  • Never use this against another person or their property as that would be illegal.
