How to Make a Meatball Sub

Ingredients

  • 4 cups olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 cups bread crumbs (Italian style)
  • 1/2 cup Italian sausage or ground pork
  • 1/4 chopped fresh Italian parsley
  • 1 tbsp. minced fresh basil
  • 4 minced cloves garlic
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp (each) salt and pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups pasta sauce
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Crusty sub rolls
  • 2-3 split garlic cloves

Steps

    Get out a big mixing bowl. In the mixing bowl, mix the bread, pork/sausage (without casings), all seasonings and herbs, cheese, eggs, garlic and bread crumbs together.

    Roll the pork or sausage into meatballs with wet hands.

    Get out a skillet and warm the olive oil. Wait for the oil to heat, then place the meatballs into the oil. Spread them out an inch so there's enough room for them to turn. Turn often from low to medium heat.

    Once the meatballs have been browned, place them on paper towels to let dry.

    While the meatballs are still hot, incorporate them with the pasta sauce. Let coddle for 20 minutes to an hour.

    Broil or bake bread (or sub rolls) for your sandwich. It can be baguette, Italian bread, or anything you want!
