How to Make a Lolita Minitop Hat
Are you a lover of the Japanese fashion Lolita? One of the accessories is a mini-top hat. Follow the tutorial to make your own! This pattern can be used by all fashions of Lolitas, as you choose what to decorate it with. Kawaii!
Steps
- 1Using a standard sized CD as a stencil, draw two circles circle on the paper side of an adhesive felt sheet. The circles, once cut out, should be the size of a standard CD, about 12 cm (4.75 inches) in diameter.
- 2Peel off the paper side of the circles to reveal a sticky surface. Stick the circles back to back. Reinforce the sticky-ness with hot glue as needed.
- 3Draw a rectangle on the felt. The circumference of the felt circle should be about 14.9 inches (37.7 cm). The length of the rectangle will be the desired height of the hat, usually under six inches (about 15.5 cm). The height of the rectangle should be longer, as it is the circumference of the circle.
- 4Using a hot glue gun, apply glue to the shorter sides of the rectangle. The overlap should be half an inch or 1.5 cm wide, and should make the cylinder smaller than the felt circle you used to measure the circumference.
- 5Cut out a small hole in the center of the felt circle made from the C.D., about 9 cm (3.5 inches) in diameter.
- 6Cut out an even smaller circle for the very top of your hat. It should be about 11.5 cm (4.6in) in diameter.
- 7Stick the small circle at one of the cylinder holes. Reinforce with glue.
- 8Glue the cylinder onto the large circle of the big circle, making sure to center the hole in the middle of the felt inside the cylinder.
- 9Now decorate your mini-top hat with lace, ribbons, jewelry and whatever you want!
Tips
- You can get an elastic for the hat to keep it in place by snipping a metal-less hair tie at the glue point, then attaching it to the inner brim of the hat.
- You can put the top hat on a lopsided bun to hold in place.
- Make sure accessories won't get caught in your hair. Change the pattern to make the brim bigger or smaller as needed to have more space to add accessories.
- You can have interchangeable accessories by attaching the decorations to safety pins, and pinning them on.
Warnings
- Don't go overboard with the decoration. Make sure it matches your lolita style.
