How to Make a Kokeshi Doll

A Kokeshi doll can be a fun project for people of any age. With some simple materials and a little planning, you can do it yourself. Keep reading for detailed instructions.

Steps

    Glue the ping-pong ball to the top of the bottle. Leave it dry for a half an hour or so.

    Give the bottle a coat of paint (that color would be the most prominent color). Leave it to dry.

    Paint the doll's facial features and hair.

    Decorate the body to represent a kimono or some other kind of clothing. (e.g. flowers, clouds, stars etc.)

    If you think the hair is too flat, glue some beads or on the top of the doll's head and put a toothpick through it (that would be some kind of bun)

    Leave it dry completely, and then glaze it with transparent nail varnish.

Things You'll Need

  • A ping-pong (or Styrofoam) ball
  • A small, clean plastic (or glass) bottle (vitamin bottle, yogurt drink bottle) with the label stripped
  • Glue
  • Paint (the more colors you have the better)
  • Ultra fine brushes
  • Beads
  • Transparent Varnish
