How to Make a Fried Pempek Lenggang

Pempek is a Palembang dish made from mixture of fish and sago. There are many varieties of pempek; pempek lenggang is the type of pempek made from mixed pempek lenjer and eggs.


  • 1 slice of pempek lenjer
  • Salt
  • 2 eggs (chicken)
  • Cubed pieces of cucumber
  • 1 bowl of cuko (see Tips)
  • Olive oil

    Cut the pempek lenjer into cubes.

    Crack the chicken eggs into a bowl.

    Place the pempek lenjer cubes into the bowl of chicken eggs. Stir the ingredients gently until the pempek lenjer and chicken eggs are mixed.

    Pour a bit of salt into the mixed pempek lenjer and chicken egg mixture.

    Pour olive oil into the frying pan. Heat it up.

    Put the mixed pempek lenjer and chicken eggs into the frying pan of hot oil. Fry the pempek lenjer for 3 minutes. Make sure each side of the pempek is fried well.

    Transfer the fired pempek to a plate. Add pieces cube of cucumber and a bowl of cuko to the finished dish. The pempek lenggang is ready to serve. Enjoy!


  • Pempek is eaten together with a dark sauce called cuka or cuko (in the Palembang language). Cuko is produced by adding brown sugar, chili pepper, garlic, vinegar, and salt into hot boiling water and stirring to combine.
