How to Make a Coffee Spritzer

Not as well known as the beloved wine spritzer, a coffee spritzer is a refreshing drink that's most enjoyable if you like coffee. A spritzer is a tall, chilled drink that can be either alcoholic or non-alcoholic in nature. The version outlined here is non-alcoholic.

This recipe makes one glass; double for two.


  • 1 cup of dark roast coffee, cooled to room temperature
  • Seltzer water or carbonated mineral water to top up
  • Cracked ice
  • Mint leaves or chocolate coated coffee beans as garnish (optional)

    If the coffee hasn't already cooled down, allow it to do so. Pouring warm or hot coffee will melt all the ice otherwise.

    Fill the glass with the cracked ice.

    Pour the cooled dark roast coffee over the ice into the glass.

    Top up the remaining portion of the tall glass with the seltzer water or carbonated mineral water.

    Stir gently.

    Add a garnish if wished. A mint leaf or a few chocolate coated coffee beans skewered on a toothpick make for a great garnish. Serve.
    • A dash of cream can be added to the top if wished.
    • Perhaps serve with a little coffee ice cream.

  • If you'd like a sweeter version, sweeten to taste with sugar, honey, stevia, or other sweetener of choice.
