How to Make a Cascaron

Cascarones are hollowed out eggs that can add fun to the holiday, especially for children!

Steps

    Wash the outside of several raw (chicken's) eggs).

    Using the tip of a small knife, create a small, dime sized hole in one end of an egg.

    Empty contents of egg into a clean bowl. DO NOT let the shell break further.

    Repeat [step 2-3] until all of the eggs are emptied. (Cook or refrigerate the removed egg contents promptly.)

    Carefully wash the shells out with soapy water. This could be done by swishing each shell individually in soapy water.

    Decorate the egg shells with food dye or paint.

    Let the shells dry, preferably overnight.

    Fill each egg with glitter or confetti.

    Glue a piece of tissue paper over the hole on each egg.

    Sneak up behind a friend and smash the egg on their head. Confetti will be stuck in their hair for the rest of the day (and all over the floor!)

    Repeat with different people until all eggs are gone.

Tips

  • Don't use too much glitter, it gets expensive.
  • Stuff the egg with as much confetti as you can for maximum effect.
  • You can use an Easter egg decorating kit to decorate the shells.
  • If you are short on time, you can decorate the eggs with crayons and make your own confetti with torn up pieces of paper.
  • You can decorate cascarones with permanent markers or by gluing small pieces of tissue paper to the shell.
  • Use the raw egg to make breakfast the next day.
  • Make custard from the eggs.

Warnings

  • Only put soft things inside the shell so that you don't hurt your friend's head!
  • If you glue too much paper around your shell, the egg may not break to your satisfaction.
