How to Make a Breakfast with Apples and Cornstarch

When looking for something more than cold cereal on a Sunday morning, take out the cornstarch, apples, and a few spices and start cooking. Make a fresh pot of coffee, get the Sunday newspaper, and enjoy and delicious and nutritious breakfast.

Cut the ingredients in half for only two servings.

Ingredients

Makes 4 servings.

  • 1 litre (1 quart) of water
  • 2 apples
  • 3 spoonfuls of cornstarch
  • 1 clove
  • 2 sticks of cinnamon.
  • 3 tbsp. sugar

    Put water in a pot and bring to a boil.

    Add a clove and 2-3 cinnamon sticks to the water.

    Peel and grate one or two apples. You will need one average-sized apple for every two people.

    Let the water come to a rolling boil. Add the grated apple to the water, along with some sugar.

    Leave the apple to cook for 6 to 10 minutes.

    Mix the cornstarch with a little bit of cold water in a cup. Add 3 spoonfuls per liter (quart) of water.

    Add the cornstarch to the boiling water and leave it to boil for another 5 minutes.

Tips

  • You can replace the apple with preprocessed quinoa for a new flavor.
  • Try this meal together with whole-grain bread, or with some milk in the mixture.
