Four Methods:Using the App Store on your iPhoneSync Downloaded Apps with iTunesReinstalling Deleted iPhone AppsInstalling Unauthorized Apps with Mojo

iPhone apps can be installed directly to your phone from the App Store, synced from iTunes, or by using the Mojo installer (for apps not authorized by Apple). You’ll need an Apple ID to use the App Store or iTunes. Learn how to search for and install apps onto your iPhone, as well as how to reinstall apps you’ve deleted in the past.

Method 1
Using the App Store on your iPhone

Select an app category to browse.[2] There are two ways to find an app, and the first is to browse through categories. You will see the categories “Featured,” “Top Charts” and “Explore” at the bottom of the screen.
    • Featured: Tap this category to see evolving, hand-curated lists of apps with innovative features, great design, or trending potential.
    • Top Charts: Choose this option to view the top free and paid apps, in order of popularity. If you’re new to apps, try browsing through the Top Free Apps to get a feel for what others are downloading.
    • Explore: This is a great way to find apps grouped by theme or function, such as “Sports” or “Weather.”
  5. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 5
    5
Tap the "Search" button at the bottom of the screen. The other way to find an app is by searching for it by name or keyword.
  6. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 6
    6
Type the name of an app, app developer, or a keyword. As you type in real-time, the name of the app should appear in the search results.
    • If you’re looking for an app that has photo filters, for example, try searching for "photo filters".
    • If you know an app was made by Zynga but don’t recall the app's exact name, type "Zynga" as the App Store will search by producer too.
    • Be mindful of your spelling when searching for apps, as spelling errors can prevent you from finding apps you’re looking for.
  7. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 7
    7
Tap the name or icon of the app you want to download (or learn more about). Whether you’ve found an app by browsing through categories or by searching from the search bar, you can view info about the app by tapping its name or icon. This will bring you to the app’s Details page, which is where you can read through a description of what the app does.
    • You may encounter false versions of popular apps. Never download an app without reading through the Details page and user reviews.
  8. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 8
    8
Tap “Reviews” to read about other users’ experiences with the app. Read through several reviews before downloading an app. Reviews are a good way to gauge whether or not an app does what it advertises.
    • The “Related” menu option will display a list of apps that are similar to the one you’re presently viewing.
  9. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 9
    9
Tap the app’s price at the top right corner to install the app. If the app costs money, the price will be listed at the top right corner of the Details page. If it’s free, you’ll see a button that says “Get” or “Free,” depending on your version of iOS.

    10
Tap “Use Existing ID” to sign into the App Store.[3] Enter your Apple ID username (your email address) and/or password when prompted, and then press “OK” to begin the installation.
    • If you’ve forgotten your Apple ID or password, visit the Apple ID site in a web browser and click “Forgot Apple ID or Password.” Follow the prompts to retrieve your lost password.
    • If you don’t have an Apple ID, you’ll have to create one before you can download apps.
  11. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 11
    11
Tap “Create New Apple ID” if you don’t already have one. This step will only be necessary for people who are new to the iPhone or who are unable to recover a lost Apple ID password. If you already logged in with your Apple ID, you can skip this step.
  12. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 12
    12
Type your information into the “New Account” fields. Again, you can skip this if you already have an Apple ID. In addition to your name and e-mail contact information, you’ll also be asked to enter your credit card information. Enter it (or choose “None” if you only want to download free apps), then press “Next.”
  13. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 13
    13
Click the verification link in your e-mail. Apple sent you an email with a link that must be followed in order to confirm your account. Open your email box on your phone or computer to follow that link. Once you click it, you’ll see a message that says “Email address verified.”
  14. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 14
    14
Return to the App Store and log in with your Apple ID. Once you sign in, the app will download and install automatically. You may have to tap the price or “GET” button to be prompted to log in with an existing Apple ID.
  15. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 15

  2. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 29

Method 4
Installing Unauthorized Apps with Mojo

  1. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 34
    1
Tap the “Install” button on mojoinstaller.co in your iPhone’s web browser. Mojo is an alternative to jailbreaking that will allow you to install apps that aren’t on the App Store, such as video game emulators and system configuration apps that typically “require” jailbreaking your phone.
    • Mojo is known to be buggy, but it’s presently the only solution that works on current versions of iOS other than jailbreaking the phone.
    • This method should only be attempted by advanced users.
  2. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 35
    2
Select “Build Custom Profile.[7] This will tell Mojo what type of iPhone you have, then send you to the “Install Profile” screen in the iPhone Settings app.
  3. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 36
    3
Tap “Install” on the top right corner of the “Install Profile” screen. If your phone is locked by a passcode, you’ll be asked to enter it now. Once you’ve tapped “Install,” the screen will switch back to the web browser.
  4. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 37
    4
Tap “Install Mojo” in the web browser. This will launch yet another instance of the Settings app, with another “Install Profile” screen. While it all may seem redundant, it’s necessary for installation.
  5. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 38
    5
Tap “Install” again. If you’re prompted to enter a passcode, type it into the provided field. If you see a “Warning” screen that says “The profile is not signed,” tap “Install” once more.

    6
Tap “Done.” The installation is now complete, and there’s now a Mojo icon on the desktop.
  7. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 40
    7
Navigate to Settings > General > Date & Time to disable “Set Automatically.[8] Flip the switch to the off position to prevent the phone from getting the date and time automatically. In a few moments, you’ll be changing the date completely.
  8. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 41
    8
Launch the Mojo app from the Home screen. Return to your home screen and tap the Mojo icon to launch the program.
  9. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 42

  10. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 43
    10
Choose “Official Mojo Repository” to browse through the apps. You can scroll through the list of apps available for download, or perform a search by typing an app name in the search box at the top of the screen.
  11. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 44
    11
Tap the name of an app to view its details. Much like the App Store, you can view additional details about the app by tapping it on the screen.
  12. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 45
    12
Tap “Install” from the details screen to install the app. This will launch a confirmation dialog, asking you if you want to install the app.
  13. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 46
    13
Tap “Install” a final time. This time, the app will begin to download and install to your iPhone. Note that this first attempt at installation typically fails. Click “Retry” if/when you see the error message. You may be pressing this button several times before the app installs.
  14. Image titled Install an iPhone Application Step 47
    14
Navigate to Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Date & Time to change the current year to 2012. This is necessary to run apps installed by Mojo for now, but check the developer’s website frequently for updates.

Tips

  • Ask Siri to download an app for you by saying “Siri, get [app name].”
  • To turn off automatic app updating in iOS 9, navigate to Settings > App and iTunes Stores and toggle the “Updates” switch to the off position.
  • An additional option for installing apps that are unavailable in the App Store is to jailbreak your iPhone, but jailbreaking discouraged by Apple—in some countries, jailbreaking is even illegal.
