While Nintendo Entertainment Systems (NES) are quite old, as they were released originally in 1985, they still bring much joy to many players. Some collectors decide to sit down and play them, and some are simply adults trying to relive their childhood.

Method 1
Inserting the Cartridge

    Open the game cover/lid to the NES.
  2. 2
    Push in the cartridge until it locks into place. This may take a few attempts.
  3. 3
    Push down on the cartridge to allow the spring to lock into place.
  4. 4
    Close the cover.
  5. 5
    Press the power button, or to restart your game, press the reset button.

Method 2
Cleaning the Cartridge

    Clean the cartridge if it won't load.
  2. 2
    Apply the alcohol to the toothbrush.
  3. 3
    Try scrubbing the metal pins where they connect to the NES.
  4. 4
    Dry off with some cotton balls.

Tips

  • Sometimes the LED light will just alternate between on and off. This means the game cartridge is loaded incorrectly. To fix this, simply take it out and put it back in. If this doesn't fix it, then try to clean it.
  • If you have a top-loading NES, simply put in the cartridge from the top and flip the red switch on. The grey button is the reset button.

Warnings

  • Be careful when cleaning your cartridge. If it is too wet, it will break it.

  • Isopropyl alcohol (at least 50%)
