How to Improve a Forum's Presence As a User

If you enjoy interacting with other people in the online environment, one great way to do this is through using forums. Forums can be found on just about any subject in a multitude of sites across the Internet.

Visit the forum a lot. One thing that newcomers look for are the signs of active involvement from other users. If it looks like dead space, odds are that the new user will disappear as fast as they can click out of there, and your reaction would be no different. A lively forum, on the other hand, will have current messages, good interaction between the uses, and a variety of topics going on at the same time. wikiHow's own forums offer a perfect example of good forums. Participate and you'll make it great.

Warnings

  • Watch out for forum pests. Although the rude and curse-happy users are very obvious, the "dog-with-a-bone" users are less clear at first because they seem polite, friendly, and often do not realize that their persistent doggedness starts to tire people out. One way of dealing with such people is to "out them without naming them" by discussing the "disruptive" behavior generally without naming names.
