How to Hide Apps on Android

Two Methods:Hiding Any AppHiding Pre-Installed Apps

Got an app that you want to keep away from prying eyes? Maybe you want to file away some of those pre-installed apps so that you don't have to look at them. Either way, you can hide apps on your Android device, though you may need a special app in order to do so.

Method 1
Hiding Any App

    1
Check if you can hide apps without installing anything. Some manufacturers include the ability to hide apps as part of their custom launchers, but this practice is becoming less common. For example, older Samsung Galaxy devices came with the ability to hide apps, but this feature has been removed from recent releases. Try following the bullets below. If at any point you aren't able to complete these bullets, you'll need to install a custom launcher to hide your apps.
    • Open your app drawer by tapping the grid button on your home screen.
    • Tap the Menu button (⋮) in the upper-right corner, or press your device's physical Menu button.
    • Tap "Hide apps" or "Hide/unhide apps."
    • Check the boxes next to the apps that you want to hide, then tap "Done."

Find a launcher that allows you to hide apps. Android devices cannot hide apps by default. In order to hide apps, you'll need a launcher that supports that feature. The launcher is the app that controls your home screens and app drawer.
    • Popular launchers that can hide apps include Apex Launcher, Nova Launcher Prime (the free version doesn't allow it), ADW.Launcher, and GO Launcher.[1]

Tap "Install" on the launcher's store page to download and install it. The launcher will download like any other app.

Press the Home button on your device after the launcher has downloaded. You will be prompted to select what app you want to use.

Select your new launcher from the list of available apps. This will display your home screen using the newly installed launcher. Don't be surprised if things look drastically different than they used to, and don't worry, you haven't lost anything.

Hide your apps with your new launcher. The process for this varies a little depending on the launcher you chose:
    • Apex Launcher - Open the "Apex settings" app. Tap "Drawer settings," then "Hidden apps." Check the apps that you want to hide.[2]
    • Nova Launcher Prime - Open the "Nova Settings" app. Tap "App & widget drawers." Scroll down to the "Drawer groups" section and tap "Hide apps." Check the apps that you want to hide.[3]
    • ADW.Launcher - Open the App Drawer and tap the Menu button (⋮). Select "Setup Group." Uncheck all of the apps you want to hide.
    • Go Launcher - Open the App Drawer. Swipe up on the App Drawer screen, or tap the Menu button in the bottom-right corner. Tap "Hide App" and create an unlock pattern if you haven't yet. Check the apps you want to hide and then tap "OK."
