How to Hard Reset Galaxy Tablets

As you constantly use your Galaxy tablets, there may come a time when a hard reset is needed. It will restore your tab to it’s original factory settings, making it like brand-new when done. Hard resetting your Samsung Galaxy Tab to its original settings is quite easy and simple.

Method 1
Doing a Hard Reset from the Settings Menu

    Go to settings. Tap on the Settings app to open the device settings. This can accessed from Apps Menu located in the upper right on a home screen.

    Go to Privacy. Scroll down the menu and look for the Privacy option; click on it once you’ve located it.

    Select “Factory Data Reset. This should be on the bottom right side of your tab.

    Reset your Galaxy tab. Read the instructions displayed after you click on “Factory Data Reset,” and then click on the “Reset Tablet” button available immediately after those instructions.
    • After selecting “Reset Tablet,” select “Erase everything” and the hard reset will start.

    Wait for the reset to finish. Wait for at least 10 to 15 minutes for the device to perform a hard reset.

Method 2
Doing a Hard Reset Using the Power Button

    Shutdown your Samsung Galaxy tab. Do this by pressing and holding the Power button.
    • If you are unable to power off your device, remove the battery from your tab and place it back after a couple of seconds.

    Press and hold the Power button, the Volume Up button along with the Home button. Do this for a couple of seconds until your tab displays the Samsung start-up logo.

    Release the Power button. Once start-up logo appears, release the Power button but DO NOT release the Volume Up button
    • A list of recovery options will be displayed, and you can now release Volume Up button.

    Reset your tab. From that list of recovery options, look for the Wipe Data/Factory Reset option and select it with the help of Volume Down button

    Confirm the reset. Confirm your selected option by pressing the Power button. Go to the option saying “Yes -- delete all user data” by pressing the Volume Down button and press the Power button to confirm your selection

    Reboot. Wait for the process to complete and then reboot your device by pressing the Power button

Tips

  • A hard reset, also known as factory reset or master reset, is a software recovery of your Samsung Galaxy tablet back to its primary or initial system state by deleting all of the data stored on your tablet in order to recover the tablet’s software to its original and initial manufacturer settings. All your settings, applications and data added by you in your tablet built-in memory will get permanently deleted after performing Hard Reset.
  • A hard reset is usually done to resolve a device software problem:
    • To resolve a problem of a device crash happening at times
    • To delete a file which is normally undeletable
    • To remove a malicious virus
    • To get back default settings of the device
    • To free the memory space by removing Junk files
    • To remove password protection in case if you forget your pin/password/pattern unlock
    • To delete private as well as confidential data from the device before selling it to someone
  • It’s always advisable to create a backup of your tab’s important data into your computer before performing a hard reset.
