How to Grill Broccoli

Broccoli is excellent grilled; its shape holds well and the fresh taste is emphasized by grilling. Marinate the florets first, then grill to perfection.

Ingredients

Grilled broccoli:

  • 2 heads of broccoli
  • Dressing of choice

Grilled garlic broccoli:

  • 1 pound of broccoli florets, cut in half lengthwise
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Grilled lemon broccoli:

  • 1 head of broccoli
  • 2 lemons, cut in half or quarters
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, and extra for drizzling
  • Salt and pepper to season

Method 1
Grilled broccoli

    Cut the broccoli into large florets.

    Place the broccoli florets in a baking dish or large bowl. Pour the salad dressing over the broccoli. Cover and place in the refrigerator to marinate for 8 hours.
    • Every few hours, remove and stir to ensure all of the florets are marinated.

    Remove the broccoli florets from the refrigerator. Drain to remove the dressing.

    Preheat the grill. Brush the grate with oil prior to heating.

    Place the marinated broccoli florets on the grate. Use tongs to transfer them.

    Grill. Turn the florets over occasionally. The florets will be grilled in about 5 to 7 minutes.

    Remove from the grill, using tongs. Serve immediately.

Method 2
Grilled garlic broccoli

    Marinate the broccoli florets. Place the florets and all of the other ingredients into a large resealable bag. Knead the bag gently to ensure that the florets are completely covered by the marinating ingredients.

    Place in the refrigerator to marinate. The florets can be marinated for as short as two hours or overnight.

    Remove the florets from the bag after marinating. Place on a plate and let the oil drip off; if they're too oily, there is a risk of catching on fire while grilling.
    • Let drain for at least 10 minutes at room temperature.

    Heat the grill to medium-high heat.

    Place the marinated broccoli florets on the heated grill. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side. They are ready when slightly charred.

Method 3
Grilled lemon broccoli

    Cut the broccoli into 8 large florets. Cut the lemons into halves or quarters, depending on which you prefer.

    Place the florets into a large bowl. Add the olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Then toss the florets in the mixture.

    Heat the grill to medium-high heat.

    Place the broccoli and lemon on the grill. Cook, turning occasionally. Cook for 8 to 12 minutes, or until slightly charred.

    Serve immediately. Drizzle some lemon juice and olive oil over the grilled florets before serving.
