How to Get White Clothes White


The answer to getting your whites the whitest they can be is simple: bleach. But using this powerful chemical in the wash is not always the easiest feat.

Steps

    Get a full load of whites. Usually this means socks, white t-shirts, and undershirts.

    Set the temperature to Hot wash/Cold rinse. This has the added benefit of conserving energy!

    Add the appropriate full amount of white clothes.

    Be sure the water level is almost full before you begin to add bleach.

    Put about one quarter cup of bleach in an 8-10 ounce cup/glass, preferably one with a handle.

    With the bleach in the bottom of the glass add hot water until the glass is full.

    When the washer is almost full of hot water and ready to spin, add the bleach water slowly, and then add cup of detergent as directed.

Tips

  • For in-between washings and a little white pick-me-up, add a splash of bleach in the glass, fill it with hot water, same as above. It really makes a difference in the long run!

Warnings

  • Be careful of water splashing bleach on the clothes you are wearing! Roll sleeves up and try not to get yourself with water once the bleach is added.
