White and yellow sweet clover is an invasive species that was brought to North America in the late 1600's. This plant invades and degrades native ecosystems. It can grow almost anywhere even in your yard which can cause the plants you want to die. This plant could surely find a home in your yard so here are some way you can prevent it from growing in yours.

Method 1
Removing the Weed

  1. 1
Mow the plant down. Mowing the plant is only a temporary way of getting rid of it. However, mowing the sweet clover will kill it over time if it is mowed before any flowers are able to bloom.
  2. 2
Pull it out. When you pull out the plant, make sure that you pull it out by the roots. That is the fastest way of taking it out. This also guarantees that it won't grow back.
  3. 3
Cut the plant. Cutting off the sweet clover is much like mowing it. If you choose to cut off the flower, it is also best to cut off the flowers and and seeds before they begin to bloom. This makes the plant unable to spread more seeds for years following and also slowly kills it.

Method 2
Spraying a Herbicide

  1. 1
Spray the plant. Spraying a herbicide is also a time consuming thing but is effective. After spraying the herbicide, expect it to take 4 to 30 days to start working.
