How to Get a Temporary ECNR

If you're an Indian Citizen and you want to travel abroad, you will need to be cleared by the protector of Emigrants. This comes in the form of a stamp on your passport that says ECNR (Emigration Clearance Not Required). This 'How to...' deals with the process of getting a temporary ECNR stamp on your Indian passport.

Steps

    Carry your valid passport with visa, confirmed international air ticket and a ballpoint pen (blue or black).

    Go to the following address at 10 AM - Building "E", Khira Nagar,S.V. Road, Santa Cruz (West), Mumbai-400 054. Tel No. 022-2614 739.

    Go to counter number 2, show your passport and air tickets, and collect the application form

    Fill out the application form with your details, then go to the cash counter at the back of the room and pay Rs. 100/- as fee.

    Go to counter number 1 and submit the passport, air ticket and cash receipt here. They will give you a token.

    Wait for half an hour, then collect the passport from counter number 4 when your token number is called out.

Warnings

  • Don't fall for touts who will offer to do this for you, it's a quick painless process which will take up an hour.
