How to Fix the Tip of a Cane With Duct Tape

If you lost the tip of your cane, or got it that way, you want to have something on the tip of it to keep you from falling and hurting yourself. While it's far from glamorous, duct tape and a paper towel will help you out in a pinch.

Steps

    Get the tip out and ready to be worked with.

    Take the duct tape and wrap it around the tip, but not snugly. Obviously, not too loose, but definitely not too tight.

    Take half a paper towel and wrap it up to be fairly small. You could use other things like small bubble wrap as well.

    Fold over the paper towel and cut off the part of it that is particularly bulky.
    • Be sure that the paper towel doesn't go all the way to the end of the underlying duct tape.

    Wrap the next piece of tape around the paper towel. Also, make sure that it doesn't go all the way to the end of the underlying tape.

    Take a 'shortish' piece of duct tape and cover the end of the cane. Be sure that none of the sticky sides of the tape will touch the floor.

    Wrap that piece with another piece of duct tape to keep it secure.

    Snip the first piece of duct tape and then fold it over the top of the duct tape you just added.

    Walk around and make sure that everything is secure.

Tips

  • It's a tad bulky, but it does what it needs to, to keep the cane from sliding on a slippery floor.
