Knowing your printer IP address is essential in being able to configure it to run on a network. You will not be able to find your printer on a computer in a wireless network if you cannot determine the printer’s IP address. This is essential for both Mac and Windows, and getting it is easy to do.
Steps
Method 1 Finding Your Printer IP on Windows
- 1Open the Start menu. Click on the Start menu, or the Windows Orb, at the bottom-left corner of the desktop.
- 2Go to Control Panel. The Start menu will show you the programs and folders you can open. On the right panel, click on “Control Panel.”
- 3Go to Devices and Printers. Click on “Hardware and Sound” in the Control Panel then click on “Devices and Printers” on the menu that appears next.
- 4Take note of the model number on your printer’s body. Under “Printers and Faxes,” your printer should appear. Match the model number with the one that appears in the menu.
- 5Get the IP address of your printer. Right-click on the printer and click “Properties.” Under the General tab, you should see a field labeled “Location.” Take note of the numbers that appear at the right of the label. This is the IP address of your printer.
Method 2 Finding Your Printer IP on Mac
- 1Access System Preferences. Click on “System Preferences” at the upper-left corner. This will open a window with various options.
- 2Click on “Print and Scan.” A separate window should open with the installed printers shown at the left pane.
- 3Select the printer of your choice. Do this by clicking on it. At the description section on the right, you will see a bunch of information.
- 4Get the IP address. The one we are looking for in the description section is the printer’s location, or it’s IP address. It should be shown right after “Location” in gray text, along with all the other descriptions for the selected printer.
