Steps

    Remove wallpaper from walls, and prepare the walls for painting.

    Mix up two different shades of powdered joint compound and paint. One should be a shade darker than you want on the wall and one should be a shade lighter. They should have the consistency of creamy mashed potatoes.

    Use the masonry trowel to work the lighter compound onto the wall.

    Add other textures depending on how you want your wall to look. For example, you can use broom bristles to create a cool look.
