Brush your horse's coat using a curry comb. Use a curry comb or other brush with 'teeth' to eliminate caked on dirt and mud while also bringing up dirt deep down in the coat. Brush the horse in a circular fashion.

Use a softer-bristled brush to clean the legs and face of your horse. If your horse does not like it when you brush its face, try going in from the side rather than the front or use a damp rag instead.

If some dirt won't come off of the horse's coat, apply a shine & detangler to the brush, then brush the horse's coat. Reapply as needed. Special shine & detanglers can also be found at feed and tack stores or online. Some popular brands are Vetrolin, Show-Sheen, and Cowboy Magic.

Include a coat supplement in your horse's diet. This is usually added in their grain as a supplement. This is usually in a liquid/syrupy form. A good brand is Healthy Coat. Horses love the flavor and it keeps their coat nice and shiny!
