How to Dry Down Pillows and Blankets
This is very easy to do. This technique can also be used for jackets, vests, etc.
Steps
- 1Find a heavy duty washer or use a triple loader at a laundromat.
- 2Put pillows in a zippered case. If you have a duvet cover with a zipper, use for the blanket.
- 3Use mild detergent.
- 4Be sure they are spun well. You may need to put machine on spin again, unless you use a commercial washer which has 2 spin cycles.
- 5When putting the pillow in the dryer, throw a couple of tennis balls in to fluff the down well.
- 6While drying, stop occasionally to rearrange to get proper air flow.
Tips
- Use dryer sheets for freshening as wet down does have an odor that may linger.
- The key to drying is to have as much water out of them so try to spin as best as possible.
- Rearrange while in dryer so proper air flow and fluffing is accomplished.
- The more balls or tennis shoes (although be careful of the rubber soles) that you use the fluffier you can get the down.
Warnings
- Do not leave in dryer for a long time without checking on them; they can scorch.
