When you get to the other side of the pipe, bend your knees right before you get to the coping. This is called pumping, and it speeds you up enabling you to go back and forth.

Tips

  • Make sure to push down hard enough so you don't do a manual down the half pipe which will have the same results as not leaning forward.
  • Lean down the way of the pipe, but before you actually move the board, move you whole body almost horizontal so that if you would put the board down, so you would have a less chance of flying backwards.
  • LEAN FORWARD! Or you'll do something called the 'Mr. Wilson' where you slip backward and land on your back. OR YOUR LEG.
  • Once you get good at this, try pumping harder so you make it up to the coping then you can try tricks like a rock to fakie. This is when you put the trucks over the lip of the coping.
  • Stomp down and lean forward or else you will fall backward.
  • Don't bend your knees; it's a BAD Habit and might throw you off balance.

Warnings

  • Don't lean backwards, always lean forward, or you'll break a leg. Literally.
  • If you fall, don't go "Oh I fell over I hate skateboarding now", keep trying until you get it. Sometimes you have to fail to get things right. Don't give up and soon enough you will learn.
  • Make sure that the half pipe is a good, smooth one not a bumpy one.
  • Never start to go and hesitate. This will result in you slipping down the halfpipe.
  • Don't skate where it is too crowded.
  • Have lots of fun.
  • Wear pads and a helmet.
  • Double-check to assure no one is standing on the pipe when you drop in.
