Do you have trouble drawing mythical creatures? It's not as straightforward as drawing a frog or a car, but you have more room for creativity because no one can ever say it doesn't look like the real thing! Learn how to draw a dragon by following this tutorial.
Steps
Method 1 A Water Dragon
- 1Draw an oval for the head.
- 2Draw a sharp curve connected to the oval drawn previously to complete the main head outline.
- 3Draw a jagged line for the mouth.
- 4Draw curves with sharp edges for the horns.
- 5Draw another set of curves for the frills.
- 6Draw an S- shaped curve for the neck and part of the body.
- 7Draw another similar S-shaped curve as the previous one.
- 8Draw a circle to make the main body section.
- 9Draw a series of curves attached to triangles for the tail and feet.
- 10Draw ovals attached to curves for the main feet of the water dragon.
- 11Based on the outlines, draw your water dragon
- 12Add details such as eyes, horn details, scales, and back spines
- 13Erase the unnecessary outlines.
- 14Color your water dragon!
Method 2 A Realistic Dragon (Fantasy)
- 1Draw an oblong for the head.
- 2Draw a smaller oblong inside the oblong earlier for the mouth.
- 3Draw a series of curves to make the frills.
- 4Draw a circle to make the chest of the dragon.
- 5Draw curves connecting the chest with the head of the dragon.
- 6Draw a big curve to make the body and tail.
- 7Complete the body and tail outline following the curve drawn earlier.
- 8Draw four ovals for the feet.
- 9Draw a series of ovals to complete the feet.
- 10Draw sharp curves attached to the feet for the claws
- 11Draw a series of curved lines for the wings.
- 12Draw a series of curved lines attached to the lines drawn previously to complete the wing outline.
- 13Based on the outline draw the main parts of the dragon.
- 14Add details to the dragon such as eyes, flame breath, scales, and back spines.
- 15Erase the unnecessary outlines.
- 16Color your dragon!
Method 3 Realistic Dragon, Festive
- 1Draw a perspective cube for the nose of the dragon.
- 2Add another perspective cube below that.
- 3Extend straight lines from the upper cube and join them to make pointed horns.
- 4Draw a string of a guideline for the body starting from the head to the tail.
- 5Connect lines to the body guide for the limbs of the dragon. Further connect straight lines for the claws. Also draw a flowing guideline for the tongue.
- 6Draw details of the dragon based on the guides.
- 7Erase all unwanted lines and enrich it with further details.
- 8Draw a repeat line over the entire body as a guide for the flames.
- 9Draw the flames based on the above guide
- 10Color the dragon.
Method 4 Cartoon Dragon
- 1Draw a slanted oval for the nose of the dragon.
- 2Add a couple more ovals to the earlier oval for its eyes and draw two antennas from it as guidelines for the horns.
- 3Draw two small ovals for the nostrils and a tapered semi-circle for the mouth .
- 4Draw a big-sized oval for the belly.
- 5Add two overlapping ovals on the big oval for the thighs of the dragon’s hind limbs.
- 6Place two smaller ovals for the paws just below the thigh-ovals.
- 7Now draw a guideline rising from the eye-ovals to the tip of the tail for the shoulder , back and tail of the dragon.
- 8On the basis of the guides, draw the shoulder, back and tail-lines of the character as well as the belly.
- 9Draw a couple of small ovals for the paws of the fore-limbs .
- 10Draw two curved lines arising from the neck followed by connected curved lines for the wings.
- 11Based on the entire layout, draw every possible detail.
- 12Erase all unnecessary lines. Then draw the guide for the fire flame and draw the bony plates on its neck, back and tail.
- 13Draw the fire in detail based on the guide.
- 14Color and shade the dragon.
