How to Draw a Bishounen Face

Two Methods:Drawing a Classic FigureDrawing a Long Face

If you're an anime fan girl, you might be smitten by bishies (bishounen or bishōnen)--young men with feminine beauty, male bodies, and the makings of a hero (strong martial arts abilities, sports talent, high intelligence, or comedic flair).[1] In order to draw bishōnen, the face must have feminine features but still be recognized as male.

Method 1
Drawing a Classic Figure

Method 2
Drawing a Long Face

    1
Draw a circle and then draw two lines on each side. Join them by drawing two more lines and connect them with a small chin. Because bishounen tend to have somewhat feminine features, draw the face longer than usual. When drawing the chin, it should be at least somewhat thicker than a girl's chin (which is drawn as a point).
  2. Image titled Draw a Bishounen Face Step 14
    2
Erase part of the circle going across the face. Use a ruler or any straight edge surface to draw one line in the middle and one across the face. The line across the face will determine the placement for the eyes, while the line in the middle will be used for drawing the nose.

    3
Draw the eyes, nose, and mouth.
    • For the eyes, draw two parallelograms for the basic shape. This is an easier method because afterwards you just need to round off the edges.
    • When doing a straight-on face, the nose is drawn as a shadow rather than a line, thus giving it more depth.
    • Draw a slightly curved line for the mouth, and add a small shadow underneath. Unlike females, bishounens have longer mouths and are more detailed as well.

Erase the guide lines and touch up the facial features. Create thicker lines on the eyes and give him some eyelashes. When drawing the eyebrows, start drawing them thickly then slowly thin them at the ends. For the hair, either draw medium to long length hair, which is typical on many bishounen characters; for more details, have to look at a How to Draw Manga Hair.

Tips

  • For older men (20+) with feminine beauty, the appropriate term is bidanshi or biseinen.
  • A female character can be bishōnen, as well, when she blurs the line between male and female. No matter what, bishōnen are always elegant and androgynous.

Warnings

  • Bishōnen are often confused with bishōjo, a Japanese term used for beautiful young girls. Unlike bishōnen, however, bishōjo are distinctly feminine, drawn to be "cute" and "pretty".[2]
