Re-evaluate your wardrobe. Try mixing different pieces together that you hadn't paired before. Separate suits and pair the jacket with a dress or the skirt with a special top. Try making outfits that you haven't worn before.

Accessorize. You might find that just pairing a different necklace or bracelet or pair of shoes can drastically change an outfit! Instead of a black belt with a blue dress, maybe try a red, brown, or white belt. Instead of flats with that skirt, pair it with some fancy pumps!

Reuse. Never wear a particular dress or pair of pants? If you are a decent sewer, you can create a whole new piece of clothing with a few cuts and seams. Try changing the pants/jeans into a skirt or a pair of shorts. Maybe make that fancy cocktail dress with the beautiful bodice into a nice top.

Embellish your clothing. I'm not talking about getting out your Bedazzler and gunning the poor shirt to death! Put new colorful buttons on an oxford. Put a piece of lace around the neck of a shirt or add a colorful rim of fabric to a plain skirt.

Make a budget. Go down to a consignment store, thrift store, or another such place. You will be amazed at what you can find!

Tips

  • If you and your friends are around the same size, gather a bunch together and have each of you bring a few articles of clothing. Create your own mini "shop" and browse around. Make sure you invite your especially stylish friends!
