How to Download Turbotax

TurboTax is tax preparation software that guides you step-by-step through the process of filing a tax return. There are currently various versions for US federal and state income tax returns, as well as Canadian versions in both English and French. This article will teach you how to download the TurboTax software package that best suits your needs.

Method 1
For US-based users

    Visit the TurboTax comparison page to compare the different software packages. You can use this page to compare the features of the different software offerings and select one that best suits your needs.

    Click the “Buy Now” button for the product of your choosing.

    Select the “Download for Windows” or “Download for Mac” option depending on the operating system you want to run the software on. The Windows download currently supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, while the Mac download supports Mac OS X 10.4 or higher.

    Click the “Add to Cart” button to continue to the download.
    • You can optionally sign up to become a valued TurboTax Advantage customer to automatically receive the software each year. Click the “Yes, Sign Me Up” button and follow the onscreen instructions. If not, click the “No, Thank You” button to skip the offer and continue with your download.

    Review your order and click the “Checkout” button to proceed with your order.
    • You can optionally increase or decrease the quantity if you are interested in purchasing more than one copy of the software.

    Sign in at the right of the checkout page using the user ID and password associated with your TurboTax account.
    • If you do not have an account, enter your email, billing information, and create account information. Click the “Continue Checkout” button when you’re finished.

    Enter your credit card information and click the “Continue Checkout” button to complete the purchase.

    Review your order. Click the “Edit" link in any section to edit any of your information or download options.

    Click the “Place Order” button to complete the purchase and download the TurboTax software.

Method 2
For Canadian Users

    Review the minimum system requirements for running the software.

    Click the “Buy Now” button for the software package you want to download.

    Ensure the “I want to download TurboTax” option is selected.

    You can optionally select the Turbotax Tax Advantage Subscription to have the latest version of TurboTax emailed to you automatically.

    Click the “Add to Cart” button to continue with the checkout process.

    Review your order and enter the amount of copies you want to purchase under “Qty”.

    Calculate taxes by selecting your province from the drop down menu and clicking the “Update Cart” button.

    Enter your billing and shipping information and click the “Continue” button.

    Review your order, billing information, and payment method. You can change your billing or payment info by click the “Edit" link.
