How to Do the "My Head Hit the Sign" Prank

Feeling like playing a joke on your friends or family? Here's a good way to prank them. With a little forethought about where to do it, you can set up the scene and give them a fright.

  1. 1
Suggest walking to lunch or coffee or something they might like. The walk needs to be somewhere there are a lot of road signs like a "Stop" sign, "No Parking" sign or poles.
  2. 2
Start a conversation that you and your friends will really get into.
  3. 3
Pretend that you are so excited about the conversation that you don’t even notice other people or obstacles. They will probably wonder or tell you to be careful because you're looking where you're going.
  4. 4
Have a couple of near misses and speed up the pace.
  5. 5
Act clumsy and careless while you walk. You want them to start thinking or even murmuring among themselves: "Hey what's up with him/her?"
  6. 6
Slowly drift away ahead to a road sign while walking backwards or looking back to talk to them.
  7. 7
Once you locate the perfect sign, talk louder, skip sideways and turn to run towards the pole. This is where you need to calculate your distance and speed before you hit the pole being careful not to hurt yourself.
  8. 8
Keep your hands low and covertly hit the obstacle with your knuckles to convince them that you didn't see it coming. If your friends see you raising your arms or flinching just before the impact it won't be as convincing and you might just look silly.
  9. 9
Smack the sign hard so that your friends can hear the resonating noise thinking it was your face.
    • Your body and your mouth should suddenly stop and silence. Remember, you had just been pretending to be loud and obnoxious to your friends. It's time for them to think and say: See I told you that would happen.
  10. 10
Don't turn around putting your hand somewhere on your head and yell “Ah! My head!”
    • Just cover your head and wait for their reactions. You will create more suspense. They should say things like "Are you alright?" or "What happened?"
    • The sudden change on your energy will make it ironically hilarious and guarantee you an Oscar.
  11. 11
When they come over to check on you, start laughing. They should fall for it.

  • Don’t overact getting hurt.
  • A variation for this is to walk near a pole, kick it, and pretend it was your head.

  • Don’t smack the sign too hard or you’ll be holding your hand instead of your head.
