How to Display Dashboard As an Overlay on Macbooks
A dashboard on Mac products is an accessible way to check the weather, put reminders on sticky notes, use a calculator, or define a word in the dictionary. Having the dashboard as an overlay is very helpful because you can see the window that is open and take notes on the dashboard or calculate an equation without moving from one display window to another.
Steps
- 1On your desktop at the top left hand corner, click on the Apple logo.
- 2On the drop-down menu, click on the option "System Preferences…"
- 3When the System Preferences window comes up, on the first row click on the "Mission Control" option.
- 4Within the box at the top of the window, there is an option called "Dashboard." Click on the drop-down menu to look at the options available.
- 5Scroll down and click on the option called "Overlay" on the drop-down menu and exit the window.
- 6Now to display your dashboard as an overlay, press the "fn" and "F12" on your keyboard at the same time.
- 7To escape from the overlay of the dashboard, press "fn" and "F12" at the same time.
Tips
- You can also access the "System Preferences" through the setting option located on your dock at the bottom of your desktop.
- "Fn" is located at the bottom left hand corner, "F12" is located at the top right hand corner. It is also the volume up button.
- It is not necessary to press "Fn" and "F12" to escape the overlay, you can press your trackpad as well.
