How to Create HD Projects in iMovie for Mac

When you've exported your project/video in iMovie for Mac, you will notice that it decreases in quality from 1080p to 720p. Don't worry, there's a simple way to fix that. Please read the instructions below to learn how.

Steps

    Click Share in the menu bar.

    Select Export Movie, or press Cmd+E if you prefer.

    Name your project, and select its location. Do not add a ".mov" or any extension the the iMovie project filename.

    Click 1080p. You can also choose 720p if you want an HQ movie.

    Click Export. Surprisingly, it won't take as long to export, as if you clicked Export movie using QuickTime in the Share menu.

Tips

  • You can also choose 720p if you prefer HQ quality for your video/movie.

Warnings

  • Do not add a ".mov" or any extension to the iMovie project file name.
