Tips

  • The crackle medium will create small cracks if the second paint color is applied within an hour. If you wait 2 hours to apply the second color the cracks will be longer and deeper.
  • You can let the paint dry naturally, or you can speed up the process by using a hair dryer. Using a hair dryer takes approximately 1/3 the normal drying time.
  • Crackle medium can be hard to find because most craft stores have stopped carrying it. Sherwin-Williams paint stores carry a small can for a decent price.

Warnings

  • Do not overlap the #2 color paint. When it is overlapped it pulls the crackle medium off of the item. To avoid this use a small roller brush and make small brush strokes in the same direction.
