Lots of people are getting navel/belly button piercings now-a-days. You finally decided that you want to be one of those people. But how do you convince your parents that you're ready for it, and to actually let you get one? Well, that's why I'm here to help!

Steps

Do your research! Search up important things that you need to know. This is a very important step. You're parents might turn you down at first and say something like "you don't even know how to clean it." You could tell them that you did you're research. If they don't believe you, tell them stuff like signs of infection, or other stuff that you wouldn't know unless you've researched them. You could also show them your search history on your computer and show the that you've been going to helpful sites.

Be responsible. A few days or weeks before you ask your parents, act more responsible. Start doing everything they tell you, even if you don't really want to. Agree to ideas that they have. Do extra things to help out without being asked. Use proper manners. When you're doing all of these things, though, don't start acting too fake. Your parents will suspect something if you just suddenly start being responsible in one day. Take it slowly.

Tell them that you know what you're doing. Explain to them that you know that it's all your responsibility to take care of the piercing. Tell them that it's your body, and that if you get an infection, it's your fault, and that you learn from your mistakes.

Understand consequences. Tell them that you know there's a chance of the piercing getting infected. Don't be afraid to give out your knowledge to them. Say that you know that you won't be able to do as many things until the piercing is healed. State things like "I know I won't be able to swim for a bit, and that's okay," or, "I know that I have to wear loose clothing for a while and practice sleeping on my back for a while, but that's fine with me."

Don't rely on your parents. You need to tell your parents that you don't need their help. Tell them that you'll save up enough money to buy your own jewellery. If they offer buying jewellery for you, say "thanks for the offer, but I told you that I can do this on my own.... I'll buy my own jewellery." If they insist, just keep turning the offer down. You don't want to show them that you're weak. Who knows: they might be testing you to see if you're really keeping your word.

Tips

  • If you're parents don't let you, don't pout and be sad; you can ask them again next year.
  • DO NOT WHINE & BEG! You could say once or twice in the conversation with your parents, "Please, I've really wanted this for a long time." Don't whine when you say it, and definitely don't say it after every sentence.
  • Keep acting responsible even after you've gotten the piercing. If you start being your normal self again, (rude, ignoring, etc. if that's the way you really are), your parents will probably realize that you being responsible was a fake act just to get the piercing, and they might tell you to take it out.
  • If you don't have enough money to pay for the actual piercing itself, tell your parents that it would be a really nice birthday present from them.
  • NEVER SAY that you want it because your friends have it. It makes your parents think that you only want it to fit in.
