How to Convert a Color Image Into a Black and White Image in GIMP

This wikiHow article will teach you how to quickly convert a color image to a black and white image using GIMP (the GNU Image Manipulation Program).

    Open GIMP. Add a color image (use Ctrl+O to insert an image) into it.

    Open the "Colors" dropdown menu and select the 'Desaturate' option. This will open the desaturate dialog box containing three options.

    Select any of the three options available. Make sure the 'Preview' check box is checked. Usually the 'Average' option would do.

    Done. The image will now change to black and white. You have now successfully converted a color image to black and white!
