How to Concentrate Better With School Work at Home

Everybody has trouble concentrating sometimes. Here are a few tips to help you concentrate on your Schoolwork at home.

    Close the door to your room. Turn your TV, phone, and any music playing off. You don't want anything to distract you.

    Sit there and DO NOT think about anything but your work

    Eat a snack before you start, otherwise you'll see a cooked chicken before you instead of French verbs.

    Set the lights to an optimum level. You want to see your work easily and you don't want to doze off because the lights were on too dim.

    Take short breaks when you've finished an assignment or all the homework for one class. Take around a five minute break when you've finished a small assignment and fifteen minutes when you've finished a larger, more tedious assignments.

    Consider opening a window or going outside during breaks. Fresh air is a real mind-booster.

    Stir up some motivation. If you like chocolate, give yourself a piece of chocolate when you are done.

Tips

  • If you work better with your music on, put it on, but listen to something that is not too loud, or has words in it, because otherwise you'll be singing along instead of working on vocabulary assignments. Instrumental songs and classical music are a couple good choices.
  • If plants having a relaxing effect on you, consider getting a few for your room. After all, they take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen.
  • If you share the room with someone, find a quiet place elsewhere or ask if you could have the room for a bit.
