How to Clear Cache and Cookies

Clearing the cache and cookies from your Internet browser can help speed up your browsing session and improve the loading time of sites you visit. The cache and cookies can be cleared at any time through the settings menu of your Internet browser.

Method 1
Google Chrome

    Click on the Chrome menu button located at the top-right corner of your Chrome session.

    Point to “More tools” and select “Clear browsing data. A dialog box will open and display on-screen.

    Place checkmarks next to “Cookies and other site and plug-in data” and “Cached images and files.

    Click on the dropdown menu located at the top of the “Clear browsing data” window, and select “beginning of time. This option erases the cache and all cookies from your Chrome browser.

    Click on the “Clear browsing data” button. Chrome will now clear the cache and all cookies.[1]

Mozilla Firefox

    Click on “History” at the top of your Firefox session and select “Clear Recent History. A dialog box will open and display on-screen.

    Click on the dropdown menu next to “Time range to clear,” and select “Everything. This option ensures Firefox will erase the cache and all cookies from your browser.

    Place checkmarks next to “Cookies” and “Cache,” then click on “Clear Now. Firefox will now clear the cache and all cookies.[2]

Method 3
Internet Explorer (IE)

    Point to “Safety” and select “Delete browsing history.

Apple Safari

    Click on “Safari” at the top of your Safari session and click on “Preferences. This will open the Preferences dialog box.

    Click on the “Privacy” tab, then click on the button labeled, “Remove All Website Data.

Tips

  • Consider clearing the cache and cookies from your Internet browser if using a public computer or that belonging to a friend. This can help prevent third parties from accessing and viewing the websites you last visited, as well as any usernames and passwords you may have entered into forms on any websites.
