How to Clean out Your Pet Mouse Cage

Steps

    Take the mice out of the cage and place them into a shoe box or tall bowl or even a small enclosure while you are cleaning the cage.

    Disassemble the cage and pour all the dirty, used bedding into the trash can.

    Spray the plastic bottom of the cage with animal-safe disinfectant. Wipe and let dry.

    Wipe the sides and top of the cage down; clean any tunnels thoroughly. Clean out food dish and water bottle.

    Fill the bottom of the cage with 1–3 inches (2.5–7.6 cm) of fresh bedding. Replace tunnels and accessories.

    Reassemble the cage.

Tips

  • Check on your mouse periodically to make sure it's okay.
  • Let your cage dry before you refill it with bedding
  • Make sure you let your cage dry before putting in any sawdust because it will stick.
  • Bedding should be spot-cleaned every week and totally changed every month.
