How to Clean French Doors and Windows
French windows and doors look great, but all those tiny windows need to cleaned and that can seem like a daunting task. Relax, it can be fast and easy to make them shine like new!
Steps
- 1Buy a squeegee with a replaceable rubber blade.
- 2Measure the width of the glass to be cleaned.
- 3Use a hacksaw to cut the squeegee channel about an inch smaller than the width of the glass.
- 4Cut the rubber squeegee blade just a hair smaller than the glass to be cleaned so that the rubber glade extends out both sides of the squeegee channel, but fits the width of the glass easily.
- 5A simple mix of dish soap and warm water can be applied with a sponge to the glass.
- 6Wet the window and then with a hand towel, wipe both sides and the top of the glass about the width of one finger.
- 7Start from the top of the glass and go straight down with the squeegee.
- 8Wipe up excess water and repeat.
Tips
- Sponge with PLASTIC scourer pad is safest.
- Have a few towels on hand and keep some dryer just for wiping the glass edges after cleaning them.
- Ring out the sponge to control drips and excess water.
- Use clean hand towel type towels to wipe edges of glass.
- Remember, practice makes perfect.
Warnings
- Be sure the rubber squeegee blade extends out BOTH sides of the metal squeegee channel to avoid scratching the paint or the wood.
- Use eye and hand protection when using the hacksaw.
