How to Clean an Aquatic Moss Ball

Moss Balls act like mini filters collecting the small debris and releasing clean water back into the tank. Like aquarium filters, moss balls need to be cleaned so that they can work properly.

  1. 1
Get a bowl or cup and fill it in with aquarium water or fill it in with bottled water. You don't need to put in to much water.
  2. 2
Get your aquatic moss ball from its home and gently put it in the bowl or cup filled with the aquarium water or bottled water. Do this gently.
  3. 3
Once your moss ball is in the bowl or cup, gently squeeze it. Make sure you don't keep squeezing the same part of the moss ball because this can damage it. You can avoid squeezing the same spot by rotating the moss ball and then squeezing it again.
  4. 4
Keep squeezing the moss ball in the bowl or cup for at least 5 minutes. Make sure you do not squeeze the moss ball for less than 5 minutes because all the dirt is going to be still there.
  5. 5
Put it back in its home. Make sure you do this gently.

  • You'll only need to clean your aquatic moss ball once every month or so.

  • Do not keep squeezing the moss ball at the same spot because this can cause damage to the moss ball.
