How to Celebrate National Seafood Month

Celebrated every year throughout the month of October, National Seafood Month is an entire month dedicated to all seafood, from bass to shrimp and everything in between. So if you're a seafood loved, and want to know how you can celebrate the entire month, then keep reading this article.

    Try a new seafood. Maybe it's one you've been wanting to try, or one you've just heard of, but head to your local grocery store or market and pick up some of that seafood so that you can try it. Once you've bought it, search wikiHow for some good recipes for it. More than likely, you'll find something that you'll want to try.

    Head to your local seafood restaurant. Whether it's your favorite one that you've enjoyed going to for awhile, or a new one that you just discovered, head there to enjoy a seafood lunch or dinner.

    Educate yourself about endangered fish species. Right now, there are many different fish species that are endangered, and some are almost extinct. Once you do the research, see how you can help take action and keep those fish from becoming extinct.

    Educate yourself about new types of seafood. You might've cooked with one, but who knows? There could be many more different types of seafood you never even knew existed.

    Take a trip to an aquarium if you have one near you. You'll not only get to see seafood, but tons of other amazing aquatic animals. Most aquariums have many animals such as sharks, and even clownfish. Yore sure to find a really cool fish at an aquarium.

    Take a trip to a fishing supply store. Even if you can't fish that much near you, you may be able to the next year. You could even just look around, and you may find some cool decorations for your house.

  • If you have children, then consider teaching them about fish, and allow them to try different seafoods if they wish to. They may end up liking them.
  • Consider trying a wide variety of different seafoods. Instead of sticking to one category. This way, you'll learn how to cook multiple different seafoods, and you may even find a new favorite recipe.
  • At some point during the month, cook up your favorite seafood. This way, you'll have another meal you'll also be sure to enjoy.


  • If you are allergic to seafood, shellfish or fish, make sure to not come into contact with it. You can still learn about them, just avoid contact. If someone in your household is allergic to seafood, shellfish or fish, it is best not to make the foods at all, as you may risk them coming into contact with it.
  • It is imperative that you go out and get your fishing license if you plan on fishing. This will prevent you from getting into trouble, and it is a sign that you know how to fish safely and will abide by laws.
