How to Catch Perch With Power Grubs

Soft plastic lures are some of the best lures to catch perch. Here is a way to catch them with a scented grub.

  1. 1
Buy your gear, a good rod and reel kit is good for starting up. Make sure it has 2-8 pound test line.
  2. 2
Buy your tackle, for weight use regular removable split shots that clip on with pliers. For bait and hooks use a 1/16 jig and 1.5 inch (3.8 cm) power grubs.
  3. 3
Find a lake, a lake with a lot of bait fish or trout is good for perch. You will also need fishing licenses and/or lake use permits.
  4. 4
Bait your hook, feed the blunt end of the worm into the end of the jig's hook until it hits the head of the jig; then pull the grub so that the barb of the hook sticks out. Then attach a split shot weight to the line with your pliers.
  5. 5
Drop your jig down by casting or simply releasing your line.
  6. 6
Wiggle the jig up and down with a short bounce every once in a while. This will somewhat look like an injured bait fish.
  7. 7
Once a fish bites tug on the line to set the hook, but not so hard as to rip it out of the fish's mouth. then reel the fish onto the boat or pier.
  8. 8
Decide what to do with the fish most perch are to small to eat but you might want to put it in a pond, or you can release it, but make sure you know the lake's limits.
