How to Catch a Brown Trout in the Winter

Everybody loves to catch trout and the winter is one of the best times to do it.

Steps

    Go to a tributary of the great lakes around November or December. This is the spawning season of the brown trout.

    Set up your rod for bottom fishing. It depends on the current to know how many weights you have to put on.

    Bait your hook. Use ro-bags or better known as spawn sacs. Brown trout eggs are the best but they are hard to get. They're illegal to sell so rainbow trout or salmon eggs should work fine.

    Cast your line and wait for a bite.
    • When a brown trout takes your bait, it will most likely grab it and take it to the bottom. when this happens set the hook and start to reel.

    Always pull in the opposite direction of the fish when you're fighting it. Let it run if it wants to.

    Land your fish. Always use a net when fishing for brown trout.

    Release or keep your fish. Keeping it is not recommended. Brown trout are decent fish to eat but practicing catch and release when possible is always a good idea.
