How to Carry a Rabbit

Everyone loves to hold their pet close to them, but some rabbits love being on solid ground and hate being lifted. So, if you want to learn how to carry and make your rabbit comfortable with you, keep reading this article!

Steps

    Pet your rabbit gently, and wait for your him/her to relax and calm down.

    Gently reach into your rabbit's cage or hutch gently and put two hands underneath the rabbits underarms.

    When the rabbit is out of the cage or hutch, place him or her on a counter or high surface so he or she won't run away.

    Again, put two hands underneath the rabbits underarms and lift her or him up so the rabbits back is facing you.

    Lean the rabbit's back on your chest for support and put one hand on the rabbit lower back near the rear for more support.

    If the rabbit starts to squirm or kick gently hold their feet together.

Tips

  • Give your rabbit a treat after you hold him or her. This will get your rabbit to realize that this is something they should get comfortable with and they will be rewarded for it.
  • Don't forget to always praise your rabbit and NEVER yell at him or her!

Warnings

  • Remember to put your rabbit down if things get out of control, if he or she starts to yelp or squeal put him or her down immediately.
  • Do not yell at the rabbit, it encourages them to act even worst then what they may be doing.
  • Never grab your rabbit by the ears. This could injure your rabbit.
